Just Part of The Story
- Founded by Bonnie a stage III Cancer thriver or survivor…depending on the day, and as someone continuing to face down associated mental and physical health challenges cancer storms upon us, CARE❤️BAG was created to spread joy and think outside the basket or box. Also to help support others facing a life changing diagnosis or the stressful event an impromptu hospital stay can be. It’s sometimes hard to know what or what not to say but even a small gesture or gift is so appreciated by those facing or recently overcoming a challenging chapter in their life. The chronically ill often feel like they've crossed a line that separates them from healthy people that can leave them feeling isolated, and unseen… believe me, saying the wrong thing is better than saying nothing at all and CAREBAG can help avoid awkwardness with thoughtful curated gifting solutions.
- CAREBAG also provides gifts of important everyday acts of self care, plus creative gifts to thank caregivers and hospital staff as so many times in the stress or distress of it all we tend to overlook the tremendous positive impacts they make in our lives. More than 10% of all purchases benefit community initiatives and our local hospices.
Mission

We carry unique and zany items to fit many types of gift giving and recipients styles from serious sympathetic expression for those who have recently undergone a very trying time, illness, accident, surgery, loss or diagnosis… to showering a loved one in some sass or humorous sweet sarcasm for those who’s journey is further along and appreciates sometimes laughter really is the best medicine or as a sweet fun thank you just for being there gift!

With CAREBAG there is indeed something for everyone and in all tastes for any budget… plus did we mention delivery within Central York Region, Newmarket and Southlake Hospital is absolutely FREE with purchases of $50 or more?! One Day at a Time
- One day and one foot at a time Bonnie is still undergoing cancer treatments, surveillance, hormone therapy, and mindfulness therapy for PTSD, GAD, & depression and has carefully selected to work with other kind, loving, likeminded individuals who love sharing ideas and are also passionate about helping others and have been supportive of her journey. Our team, local partners, and collaborating businesses are not only caring, knowledgeable, and friendly but from conception, first contact, and down to delivery CARE❤️BAG is committed to providing an exceptional and compassionate service for all clients and their friends and loved ones. We care deeply for our Newmarket and York Region community and supporting the health and wellbeing of those who live in it! When we suggest supporting small business, at CAREBAG, we actually do it! Actions not words… as personally learned it’s not what someone says… it’s who is felt standing beside you that truly matters most!

- At CARE❤️BAG, we are inspired by witnessing and participating in ways to spread collective love & kindness to others... CARE❤️BAG and its story is one of the ebbs and flow of my own journey this past year and a bit with advanced breast cancer and mental health… using experience to promote understanding, love, support and positivity. I believe that everyone can improve their quality of life by gearing attention to and promoting not only caring for one another but spreading health awareness in general. Celebrations look a bit different for someone facing down illness, in that we deeply discover the little things matter most and everyday is a day to be celebrated.
When you buy someone a gift bag from CAREBAG or wear our t-shirts, you're not just showing concern for health issues, you're giving love and support and becoming a force for positive change in the healthcare of our local community.
The few t-shirts that are currently offered come with personal deep meaning, and like our Carebags, a healthy percentage goes directly to help to support others. The shirts or our hand knotted homemade wish bracelets make special gifts for yourself, cancer fighters, fighter families, thrivers, nurses, and all those impacted by cancer and/or its associated mental health impacts.
DO IT FROM LOVE, NOT FOR LOVE…This is not just a gift shop business, its much more personal, sharing my story as its my legacy to help others… these gifts are not just a thought… but symbols of strength, hope and perseverance, Inspiring us all to end the stigma of ALL health issues and also to come together as a community to help fight cancer and mental health struggles together!

“Dear, Newmarket and York region… when we fight together we win together, when we work together we succeed together, when we lift each other up, we all stand! Everyone craves to be cared for even when we don’t ask to be. To be “strong” isn’t to say we are made of tin, even in the war of our lives our hearts still crave the showing of love and friendship. When you do not know what to say you do not know what to do find comfort in helping others by providing them what they need to feel thought of and that helps make their journey even a touch better.
No one is seeking pity, but on the roller coaster ride of health concerns while sometimes at the bottom we need to be given thoughtful “time” and gifts that empower and lift us up, that motivate us to push on and finish the ride of our fight (whatever that fight may be)! Not close by… send a card, pick up the phone, send a Carebag, please just let them know you care! Say “you’ve got this” or better yet, “We’ve got this!”
Just as there are stages of cancer and other chronic or mental health conditions there are many stages of treatment and even more stages of recovery. It not only takes up residence in our bodies but continues long after to live rent free in our minds, remember this when caregiving; for each battle won…the war may well still be raging.

Giving to others really helps you reassess what it is you need… Many of us would find when we evaluate what we need vs what we have… there’s so much more we can afford to give in so many “different” ways!
